Julie McSorley and Liz Cottriel were being viewing humpback whales on Monday when one particular made a decision to get up close and private. A whale came up underneath them and induced them to capsize.
“All of a sudden, I lifted up, and I was in the drinking water.”
Footage from a witness nearby would make it show up as if the kayakers are getting swallowed by the whale, but the two just tipped about.
“The whale was proper right here in my encounter, actually,” Cottriel told KMPH.
“I’m imagining to myself, ‘I’m gonna press. Like, I am gonna force a whale out of the way! It was the weirdest assumed. I am pondering, ‘I’m useless. I am useless.’ I considered it was gonna land on me. Up coming factor I know, I am underwater.”
The two managed to escape unscathed, briefly heading underwater soon after capsizing ahead of reemerging.
The NOAA says humpback whales are popular amongst whale watchers as they are lively on the surface and generally bounce out and slap the h2o with their pectoral fins or tails.
